Her recent marketing experiences include Marketing Communications & Global Programs for the HP Communications & Media Solutions business as well as leading the global Communications, Media & Entertainment Marketing team that was responsible for sales empowerment and training, market influencer activities including media and analyst relations and direct customer touch programs including tradeshow management and demand generation. Her sales leadership and global account management form the foundation of her career experience.
Joy holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia where she focused on public communications and persuasion theory and an M.B.A. from Duke University. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.

John Margaglione is responsible for global presales and systems engineering for HP Software’s Big Data Platform. John was brought to HP through the acquisition of Vertica Systems in 2011. John’s global team is responsible for presales, data science and best practices.
John is a recognized expert in Big Data technologies, including traditional databases, columnar databases, NoSQL technologies and data science. John comes from a statistics background, with over 20 years of experience in software development, consulting, and sales.
Before HPE, John held a global role at Oracle, where he worked on strategic partnerships with Oracle’s Linux and Virtualization technologies, as well as middleware products from the BEA acquisition. John started his career at Accenture and PwC, where he co-developed their Information Technology Infrastructure Methodology.

Dr. Mauro Barbieri received a M.Sc. degree in Informatics Engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy in 2000 and a Ph.D. degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology in 2007. In 2001 he joined Philips Research in The Netherlands where he contributed to innovations in various domains, including video retrieval, recommender systems, data analytics and machine learning. He is currently leading the research activities on smart maintenance for Philips Healthcare. He has more than 30 publications in international conferences and scientific journals and he is a co-inventor of more than 15 US patents.

Ben is an old-timer, having joined Vertica as an engineer in time to ship Vertica 2.5. He has worked on many areas of the product, mostly relating to distributed infrastructure, data load, and workload management. Nowadays, he manages several engineering teams that work in the guts of the Vertica server, while also moonlighting as a technical resource. Ben has a Ph.D. from MIT in Computer Science and enjoys swordfighting in his spare time.

Brian is a Master Technologist in the HPE Software Big Data business group. Having been an HPE IDOL developer in a former life, he is now part of the product management team. He focusses on understanding customer aches and pains, allowing him to determine the best direction for Big Data products. Before HPE, Brian held a variety of technical and commercial roles a number of Cambridge high tech companies, in the areas of application delivery, security and IPTV. Brian’s early career was in teaching and research at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory, with a focus on computer systems networking. He holds a master’s degree in Computer Science from Cambridge.
